Kayaking and fishing is a match made in good vacation planning. Since kayaking is all about having sporting equipment that is light and portable, the fishing equipment that you choose for your kayak should also keep along those lines. Your best bet is to get online and search kayak fishing gear websites to find the best fishing gear for your particular kayak.

Finding affordable kayak fishing equipment that won’t break the bank is not too much of a problem. The challenge may come in finding web sources that provide the specific equipment you are looking for. However, you will have an easier time finding more stores on the Internet that cater to the kayak enthusiast than local sporting stores.

Online you can more easily comparison shop, finding the best price for what you are looking for. There is a wide assortment of fishing accessories to outfit your kayak from basic fishing gear to auxiliary equipment for standard kayak angling. Remora knives, compasses, insulated fishing bags; nets and floats are necessities of the kayak angler. Accessory clips for your fishing gear, rod holders, and clips for your kayak paddles should also be a part of your shopping list. Many times one forgets about the need for things emergency supplies like batteries and chargers, but you will be able to find these essentials and other safety products for your outfit on many kayak websites.

Look for gear that is easy to reach, gives you freedom of movement, and assists you in staying organized onboard. Taking your kayak out for a test run before the big event to see what other supplies you may have forgotten might not be such a bad idea. It can help you gauge what you already have, what you don’t need, and what you might still need to purchase. Since a kayak has such a limited, compact space in which to operate, it is important to bring only those things that you will need.

Keep an eye out for the latest arrivals in the latest fishing gear for your vessel. Items of comfort, such as the best designs and latest technology in seating equipment and clothing gear, are being improved yearly and should be a definite consideration. Your back and legs will thank you for investing a little more in that terrific pro seat with the comfortable high back rest and extra gel seat cushions that you have been eyeing. Always think comfort, convenience, and safety when making the best choice in a product. Since you will be in the wide-open spaces, you have to be ready for any changing weather patterns and medical emergencies. So having the right assortment of clothing options for any intermittent weather is vital. Finding compact organizers for medical and safety emergencies shouldn’t be overlooked either. A first aid kit and pharmaceuticals should always be on hand for emergencies. Having everything you need at your fingertips for that particular outing is the key in having a memorable kayaking experience.

A tandem kayak is sometimes called a double kayak and is to hold two people. These are good when there are families going on the water as children can be placed with their parents or couples can travel in the same vessel. There are three types of tandem kayaks: sit on top tandems; sit in recreational tandems and the tandem sea kayak.

A tandem kayak like any other thing has its positives and its negatives. The positives are; it is easy for beginners as they can sit upfront and get a feel of what kayaking is all about with a stronger kayaker in the rear seat. It allows two persons to travel together for the entire journey even if they are of different paddling strengths. Otherwise the stronger of the two would have to either paddle slowly or constantly be waiting on the weaker paddler. For children they can get their own seat upfront instead of sitting between the legs of their parents, which is a common practice in the sit in kayak. Children will love this especially if they have had to be in a sit in kayak with their parents in the past. Another passenger for your tandem kayak could be a pet. No longer do you have to leave your pet at home when going on a water adventure. This type of kayak is also good for anyone who either does not want to paddle or cannot paddle and just wishes to enjoy the sun and the ride.

People sometimes ask if a tandem kayak can be paddled with only one passenger. The answer to this question is yes. Even you are on the lighter side you can still paddle a tandem by yourself. You will probably need some stuff placed in the front so as to keep the nose down but it is doable. The kayak will however go faster and track straighter if there are two people in the boat. But if your trip on the water is for mere leisure and you are not going to be in a hurry then this shouldn’t be a problem.

If you plan to share a tandem sea kayak with someone else you have to ensure that both parties can and are willing to communicate unless the person up front is just coming along for the ride. If the person up front will be paddling too then he/she also needs to pay attention to the water and notify the paddler in back of any possible obstacles in the way. Also both paddlers cannot be paddling at the same time. This will cause the paddles to clank together and this will be annoying for both. The timing has to be specific and the person up front needs to be constant so as not to through the person in back.

Tandem sea kayaks are a great way to have fun on the water without getting wet. They provide a comfortable way for two people to travel together.

Kayaking is a great way for families to participate in outdoor activities together. With a two-seat or double kayak, children can be introduced to a challenging and rewarding activity in a safe, responsible manner. Canoes, though similar, are more difficult for the beginner and for smaller paddlers. Kayaks, with their low, comfortable seating and double paddles, are easy to learn for both parents and children.

Families can form a much closer parent-child bond in a kayak because they work together. With the normal arrangement with the parent in the rear seat, the child feels more independent, while the parent can observe and provide guidance as needed. Teenagers can be given the ”command seat’ in the rear as they gain skill and maturity, with either a parent or younger sibling in the front position, adding a deeper dimension to family dynamics. Couples, too, benefit in their relationship from the close physical coordination required to paddle a two-seat boat.

Although water sports are not without danger, careful preparation and attention to safety can make kayaking an enjoyable and safe alternative to other activities. Modern sit-on-top or open kayaks meant for recreational use are stable and pose no danger of being trapped in case of a rare rollover. Selecting a quiet river or pond with no motorboat traffic for kayak outings can be safer than hiking or biking near roadways.

Kayaking creates family bonds because of the shared adventure. For most children and adults, car trips are an experience to be endured and quickly forgotten, but a kayak or canoe trip is an adventure with memories that last a lifetime. The difference is mainly that, in a kayak, more so than in a canoe, both paddlers have a sense of being in control, so the experience is more intense. At the same time, the experience is shared, so the person you are with is an essential part of the pleasant memory. Because paddling a double kayak is a coordinated effort, the child or partner in the front position has the captain's undivided attention and, in turn, must be focused on his or her role in the process. So much of our daily life at home is filled with distraction, which simply doesn't happen in a kayak, or the consequences are immediate and self-correcting. It takes both paddlers to proceed smoothly.

Families can start out with a double or tandem kayak. Many kayak models can be configured with either cargo space in the center for kayak camping trips or a “jump seat” for a small child, so children learn water safety from an early age. When the child gets older, he or she can take the front paddle position and one of the parents paddle a single kayak or, if more children are planned, another double kayak with cargo stowed in the forward seat to balance the boat. As the children grow, they can switch positions with the parents and take command themselves.

So, you've decided you'd like to get into kayaking. First you need to decide on a boat. The one that's best for you depends on what you plan to do with it. In fact, if you like to do several different kinds of water activities, you may end up with several kayaks of different style.

Kayaks come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and materials, and an equal variation in prices. All kayaks basically fall into one of three different categories, based on the water conditions in which they will be used: whitewater, for fast-flowing, rough water; flat-water boats, for slow-flowing streams, smaller lakes, and gentle ocean swells, and ocean-going boats, for all-weather paddling in flat to choppy water.

The next consideration is the skill level of the paddler. If you are a beginner, the best choice may be a single or tandem sit-on-top kayak. These are molded in one piece from polyethylene or fiberglass; the paddler sits in an open cockpit with a comfortable molded seat and footrests spaced for paddlers of all sizes. The advantage is primarily ease of entry and exit. If whitewater appeals to you, start with a whitewater kayak with the proper equipment and take lessons. Experienced paddlers who are interested in racing, kayak camping or ocean-going expeditions may want to get checked out in a kayaking class, then choose one of the closed-deck models. These traditional-style kayaks also come in molded plastic and fiberglass, but high-end models may be hand-built from wood strips or waterproofed fabric or fiberglass applied over a wood or metal frame and cost over 20 times the price of an entry-level sit-on-top model.

Except for whitewater kayaks, which are always short, stubby single-seat models designed for maximum maneuverability and stability, kayaks come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Recreational kayaks also come in short versions, but with a deeper keel for better tracking for straight paddling. Touring kayaks have less-rounded hulls for increased stability at the expense of maneuverability, but compensate with optional external rudders. Racing kayaks and expedition kayaks are long and thin for speed, while recreational kayaks are wider and slower to provide more stability, compensating for the rounded hull shape that provides faster turning.

Once the basic hull design and configuration is settled, the choice is between single-seat and tandem dual seating. Recreational kayaks generally have less cargo space than touring kayaks. Some kayaks have only deck-mounted cargo tie-downs, while others have internal cargo compartments with watertight hatches. On some tandem boats, a center cargo hatch can be converted to a third seat for a child or small adult, or for use for solo paddling. Without a center seat, solo paddling in a two-seat kayak requires cargo or other ballast to be secured in the front seat to balance the boat properly. The last choice is construction material and size, both of which determine ease of handling and load capacity, and affect the total price, along with available options.

If you are looking for a versatile personal watercraft, the kayak is one of the top choices. But, there are many types to choose from, depending on your experience level and recreational goals. If you are new to the sport, a sit-on-top kayak is a good choice.

Sit-on-top kayaking, with boats based on the centuries-old Hawaiian watercraft, has become very popular in recent years. Boats are available in many sizes, styles, and construction to fit every budget and purpose. Sit-on-top kayaks are an excellent choice for the beginner, for ease of entry and exit, safety in case of a rollover, and ease of handling.

Because the paddler is exposed to wind and waves, a sit-on-top kayak is best suited for flat-water use in fair weather. “Flat water” means gently flowing streams and rivers, calm lakes and low ocean swells. For a day out on the water or a weekend camping trip, the sit-on-top kayak offers many advantages. For water play, where rollovers are inevitable, a sit-on-top kayak is safe, unsinkable, and lightweight. For extended trips, many models have molded-in cargo trays with hold-down straps to keep your gear handy and easy to load and unload.

The molded, closed construction of a sit-on-top kayak makes it possible to build lightweight but strong boats that are easy to handle on land or water. Though similar in size and weight to white-water boats, the sit-on-top kayak is designed for the best mix of speed and maneuverability in calm water.

Sit-on-top kayaks are relatively inexpensive, with one-size-fits-all design, so families can invest in several one-person models that they won't outgrow. Many two-person designs can be paddled by one person from a center position, an option not available in most traditional kayaks. Most sit-on-top one-person boats are designed to stack, so several can be stored or transported in little more space than one. The lightweight provides more load capacity in a smaller size, another advantage for storage and transport, as well as handling on and off the water.

For beginning paddlers, the sit-on-top kayak is also easy to steer and paddle. The traditional double-ended paddle provides speed without strain. The short hull is highly maneuverable and easy to steer with the relatively long paddle, but also tracks well for straight paddling due to careful design.

For more experienced paddlers, the sit-on-top kayak is still a good choice, for many of the same reasons: economy, strength, durability, safety, and handling. The cargo-carrying features of the higher-end models permit overnight or extended trips in warm weather and calm waters.

Fishermen will find a sit-on-top kayak a good alternative to other watercraft. Many models come with molded-in holders for fishing gear, and ample, easily accessible cargo space.

The sit-on-top kayak is an ideal choice for individuals and families whose water activities lean toward warm weather on flat water. This versatile craft is excellent for water play, fishing, wildlife watching, weekend camping, or just a quiet float down the river.

Kayaks are among the most versatile watercraft, but, until recently, have been the choice of the adventuresome few. The sit-on-top kayak has changed the sport, making safe and simple kayaking available to everyone. The traditional covered-deck kayak, evolved from the light, watertight seal-hunting craft of the people of the Arctic regions, has a reputation for tricky handling and a fear-factor for would-be kayakers because of the enclosed cockpit.

The right of passage for a traditional kayaker is the "Eskimo Roll" maneuver, usually performed in a swimming pool with rescuers standing by should the student fail to turn the craft upright before his air runs out. The sit-on-top kayak eliminates this fear, while providing opportunity for fair-weather water fun as well as a platform suitable for fishing and exploring the waterways.

The sit-on-top kayak originated in the Hawaiian Islands and is now popular everywhere. The modern sport sit-on-top kayak is relatively inexpensive, easy to handle, and easy to exit in case of a rollover, with no fear of being trapped underwater. While single-seat models are the most common, two-seat models are also available, with options for single-seat paddling.

Most sit-on-top kayaks are made from rotationally molded plastic and are virtually unsinkable, as the entire hull is a flotation chamber. Fiberglas models are available where extra strength is needed, with the same unsinkable characteristics, but the polyethylene models are dent and scratch-resistant as well. Since the rider sits above the waterline, scuppers can be provided to drain away any water from the cockpit‚ bailing is needed.

The shorter single-seat models, typically about eight feet in length, are easy to transport and easy to store. Many models are designed to stack for storage, making sit-on-top kayaks the ideal personal watercraft for active families with limited storage space. Likewise, several can be transported on a car-top carrier, van, pickup truck, or small utility trailer, stacked closely together. The closed molded shape provides a high strength-to-weight ratio, so the kayaks are extremely light-weight compared with other boats of comparable load, making off-water handling easy as well as maximizing load capacity in a small boat.

The human-powered sit-on-top kayak provides safe, enjoyable exercise for the whole family or for couples, whether for water play, fishing, or communing with nature on quiet waterways. The open cockpit boats are easy to board and easy to exit, from shore, the water, or a dock. The molded cockpit is comfortable and provides good support. Because they are molded in, multiple footrests are provided to fit any size paddler. As with all kayaks, the double-bladed paddle makes steering easy, as well as aids quiet paddling on bird and wildlife-watching trips. Many models have cargo tie-downs, leaving gear handy, rather than stowed inside the hull.

If you are looking for a flat-water, fair-weather craft with good value, safety, ease of handling on and off the water, and a big fun-factor, the sit-on-top kayak is the best all-around choice, when compared with canoes and closed-deck kayaks.

We all know how important it is to prepare well for a long trip on the road. Unlike flying on an airplane, you can bring everything possible that will make your long trip on the road an enjoyable and comfortable experience for you. Your car can hold as much as or as little as you need to be happy and comfortable in your experience on the road.

However, your sit on top kayak doesn’t have the full length back seat, glove compartment, or trunk that your car or SUV is automatically equipped with. This is where your organizing skills are needed to use the extremely limited space in your sit on top fishing kayak wisely so that there is a comfortable space for you while your fishing gear has its own assigned areas, is easy to reach, and out of the way of your paddles.

There are kayaks that are specifically designed for the fishing enthusiast. These models are designed with maximized options in storage space with your comfort and safety in mind. Some fishing kayak models come in wider space with thermally molded foam seats and comfortable padding. Look for models with a high saddle and a more spacious cockpit that will provide you with more freedom to assume numerous, comfortable fishing and paddling positions. You should be able to stand, kneel and assume other intermediary positions besides sitting.

You can buy additional lightweight self-inflatable seat pads that can provide extra welcomed comfort for these positions. Your seat should give excellent, solid back support. Tri-fold seat cushions have extra cushioning for your back and feet. There are backpack and rod holders on the back of many tall back seats. After sitting for 8 or more hours, you will be able to feel the difference from extra strong, sturdy seat back systems that give you the ultimate in kayak seat design. You can find heel and peg pads with gel filled inner cores that can provide added support to the pressure points on the balls of your feet and heels.

Waterproof backpacks, kayak carts, car roof racks, and SUP bags are important in having good maneuverability to and from the water. Fishing coolers with sturdy handles are must-haves for a well stocked fishing kayak. Lightweight, comfortable kayak fishing lifejackets, swim vests and helmets are essential gear to include onboard. Of course, don’t forget your four-legged friends. So many of them want and thoroughly enjoy a piece of the action, too. So investing in a doggie vest is one of the things that we can do for our best friends, providing an exhilarating time of their lives.

Depending on the time of a year, the Farmer John wetsuit may be a good investment for yourself in staying warm and dry when getting a tan isn’t the priority. When you are back on land, a good hammock and tent package may suit your needs. These and the camping supplies that you brought along in your car or SUV will help round out a well thought out and well planned vacation package for you, your family and friends, and your furry, little companions.

Finding the best deals on inexpensive sit on top kayaks are a challenge yet not impossible. You may find that some sit on top kayaks are more expensive than you are willing to pay. By the time you buy all of the necessary accessories that go with the vehicle, you have found that it is beyond your budget of the moment. However, buying some models can save you a substantial amount of money, sometimes as much as $1,000 or more just when buying accessories alone. For some models you can save as much as $100-$300 on accessories like rudders, seats, racks, and outriggers. However, you have to realize that sometimes you have to pay a little more for something that assures you a good performance for the money.

Comparison-shopping is the tried and true way to go about this. There are many online websites that offer extensive lines of high performance sit on top kayaks. It is your task to find the best time to buy them on sale. Some kayak websites have a price selection feature that lets you choose to view sit on top kayaks that are priced under $200, $200-$500, and so on. Others provide you with the feature setting a price range for what you are interested in buying.

Looking for deals on sit on top kayaks is best done during the months of January, February, and March. Sales on kayaks and other boats will most likely be during this time of year. This is the winter boat show season; the best time to get a good price on a new kayak. Boat shows are a very good way to see the latest models of showcased kayaks by many manufacturers and compare features and prices of all gathered in one location. Boat shows are when dealers will offer you their best prices. It’s worth the trip to attend these events to get the best deals on lower priced sit on top kayaks and to talk about their seasonal deals.

Buying a used kayak is a little harder to do. People tend to keep their kayaks for a long time because kayaks tend to last forever. So comparison-shopping online and finding sales at the right time of the year are usually the best ways to come up with a satisfactory price. Some websites provide links where you can find coupons for the items on sale and gift certificates as well. Some websites offer package deals where when you buy any one of their kayaks, and they will add paddles or a Kokatat Bahia Tour Pfd at a discount price, saving you $30-$35.

Look for clearance links on these websites to find models of prior year sit on top kayaks that are drastically priced for immediate sale. Many times the manufacturers have closeouts and discontinued stock that they must move out of their inventory to make room for the new year’s inventory. They may have on stock too many blemished and scratched merchandise that they need to sell quickly. These are your golden opportunities to grab a sale for your next big outing.

Fishing kayaks are distinguished by their rugged features, mount rod holders, mounted spin cast rod holders, paddle tethers, anchor systems, and storage space. You can get comfort plus seat backs, an oversized tank well with bungee and reflective deck rigging. With gear like this, you will be closer to the fish in no time.

The Dirigo XT 106 Angler Fishing Kayak has a cockpit of 38 x 18.5’ a length of 10’6’, and a maximum capacity of < 300 lbs. You will find it easy to enter and exit this kayak. It comes outfitted with a storage glove box, the easy to access Space Hatch, and the coveted comfortable Active Comfort System seat. It provides ergonomically contoured seating to maximize your comfort while on the water. A spray skirt and cockpit cover will protect your angler kayak from the elements, dust, and keep bugs out of your boat and cockpit. The Pelican International Castaway 150 DLX now has more cargo-carrying space. It has a bow storage hatch, day hatch with dry bag, adjustable padded backrest, adjustable oversize foot pegs, carrying handles for both bow and stern, a tie down for the paddles, elastic bungee cords in the stern, two flush mount rod holders, a swivel rod holder, a cleat, and a stern storage platform.

The Angler’s Edge Kayak has a light weight of only 37 lbs. It has easy loading and carrying with bow and stern carry handles. It is extremely comfortable with an integral, dual-density foam seat with hip pads and backrest. Its large 21’ X 51’ cockpit opening gives you a feeling of open, easy exit and entry. Peaked bow wave-deflector and foredeck help shed and deflect water away from the paddler, keeping him dry. Its hard-chinned hull is designed to provide a higher performance than other hulls.

The Tarpin Angler Series claim to have it all: comfort, stability, stowage, glide, and good looks. These kayaks are fast, maneuverable, and are great for those who need a vessel to cover a lot of water and face periodic windstorms. Flat-floored cockpits allows for standing and casting a line with no problem. They are also stocked with standard features like the carry handles that are made for comfort, a scotty rod holder, a large bow hatch (oval; orbix), two flush-mounted rod holders, eight inch midship hatch (orbix), tankwell with included bungees, Phase three SOT seating system, side-carry handles that have a paddle holder and much, much more.

Other angler kayak series, like the Wilderness Systems Pungo Angler Series and the Wilderness Systems Ride Angler, have standard features and design styles that are typical of their family group. The Pungo Anglers special features are spacious cockpit, increased weight capacity, and easily accessible rear hatch for angler and fishing gear. They are also stocked with standard features like the carry handles that are made for comfort, a scotty rod holder, a large bow hatch (oval; orbix), two flush-mounted rod holders, eight inch midship hatch (orbix), tankwell with included bungees, Phase three SOT seating system, side-carry handles that have a paddle holder, a storage pocket (tarpon), a sliding Trax system, a keepers foot brace system, and an optional rudder.

Today’s popular trends of finding creative ways to both stretch your dollars and enhance your health are in full swing, and people are finding that kayaking can fit the bill in both areas. Whether you are a serious sports enthusiast or you just want to find a less expensive and greener way to get close to nature, this is it.

You will find that purchasing a kayak for your next vacation can be a more frugal, cost-friendly experience than just handing over big bucks for a new boat or sailboat. A new small sailboat can cost from $50,000-$75,000. In addition, you would have to pay for the cost of its maintenance, such as storage and periodically replacing a new sail. Of course, motorboats are even more expensive with their upkeep and fuel intake. On the other hand, a sit-on kayak is much more economical and would only cost you $300 – $850 or more. Compared to motor and sailboats, kayaks are like a sun-powered, water or wind-powered dream vehicle but without all of the flashy accessories and costs. They are reminiscent of simpler times when people were more aware of and in touch with their surroundings. Though today’s sit-on kayak has the benefit of the latest technology and designs, it is a much greener way to spend your time outdoors. With no cost for fuel and no gas emissions to worry about, it thankfully spares the environment further unnecessary pollution, leaving your visit to the great outdoors in the same way you found it. It’s a win-win situation for everything and everyone involved.

A sit-on kayak offers you incredibly easier mobility and far better storage options. Transporting it from place to place is by far much easier than transporting a motor boat or sailboat. There is no comparison with the time and money you would save in keeping up your kayak. Also, try storing your sailboat or motorboat in your basement or garage. You can only do that with a kayak.

In addition, kayaking gives you a great way to get a cardiovascular and upper body workout while in the presence of some of the most breath-taking views that nature has to offer. Why have a mind-numbing time in a hot gym looking at four walls and constantly checking the clock when you could get an even better cardiovascular workout in the midst of some of nature’s most spectacular backdrops. There is no comparison.

A sit-on kayak lets you explore your environment at ground level while you survey your next fishing spot, camping area, or trekking adventure. Its streamlined design brings you as close as you can possibly get to the water, where you can be at eye level with your surroundings. Kayaking gives you the solo experience of just you and your kayak, just you and nature. However, if you prefer, you can also buddy-up and kayak with a group. Sit-on kayaking provides you with the freedom of being more in control of your environment and your pocketbook on your next outing.
